NEPHROTIC SYNDROME IN CHILDREN

Nephrotic syndrome in children

Nephrotic syndrome in children is a kidney disorder seen in children. In this disease, protein is lost in the form of urine, which causes a deficiency of protein in the body. Symptoms of nephrotic syndrome in children are-
 1. Protein Loss
2. Inflammation– Due to deficiency of protein, the blood becomes thin due to which fluid accumulates around the feet, eyes, and face. Water retention is seen in the body which increases weight.
 3. High cholesterol level- As the number of protein decreases, the amount of cholesterol in the body increases. This increase in cholesterol in the body is known as hyperlipidemia.

In, nephrotic syndrome in children, creatinine and urea levels remain normal. If at this stage, nephrotic syndrome is not treated properly, it can lead to kidney failure. For such patients, at the time of renal biopsy, a condition called minimal change disease is seen. In minimal change disease, the body excretes large amounts of protein in the urine and the kidneys appear normal during a biopsy.

The reason behind the injury of nephrotic syndrome is the damage to the podocyte cells present in the kidney, due to which the protein is not retained in the body. For such patients, an easily absorbed and easily digestible protein is required. Such protein is obtained from pulses and milk which increases the level of protein which leads to the lack of protein in the body. But the only diet will not work for the patient with nephrotic syndrome, there is also a need to control the damage to the kidneys. Treatment in nephrotic syndrome is anti-inflammatory. So, steroids are given, but we cannot continue the steroid for a lifetime due to its side effects. We need something that works as a steroid but not a steroid.

Lack of protein in the body leads to complications such as retreatment and improper formation of hormones and amino acids. Therefore, the retention of protein is important for a patient with nephrotic syndrome.

Causes of Nephrotic syndrome in Children:

A glomerulus is a tiny blood vessel contained within your kidneys. Your kidneys filter extra water and waste products from your blood as it passes through these vessels. Your bloodstream contains proteins and other substances that your body needs.

A person with nephrotic syndrome has damaged glomeruli and cannot filter their blood properly. Protein leaks into your urine when these blood vessels are damaged.

Your urine loses albumin, which is a protein. In your kidneys, albumin is responsible for the removal of excess fluids. Your urine then removes this fluid.

The extra fluid in your body is held in by albumin. Your legs, feet, ankles, and face will swell (edema). So, these were some causes of nephrotic syndrome in children.

Nephrotic Syndrome in Children Diet

Nephrotic syndrome in children is a dangerous health problem and you should take care of your child, you can give a diet for curing nephrotic syndrome.

Here is the diet for Nephrotic Syndrome:

The amount of salt in your child’s diet may need to be reduced to prevent further water retention and oedema.

Eat whole foods and limit your salt intake.

Patients with Nephrotic Syndrome should eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables, low in salt, fat, and cholesterol.

So, it was the nephrotic syndrome in children diet.
